The Atrium is a dynamic and flexible building used for informal meetings, open days, recruitment fairs, Graduation days, and includes a cafe.
Landscape features to the new external space included new contemporary paving, stainless steel tree planters, climbing plants on steel training wires to the existing re- rendered retaining walls, glass balustrades, seating benches and picnic tables. An existing sculpture was also sympathetically relocated into a pebble area with low bubbling fountains, and new mood and spot lighting were incorporated into the space.
Peripheral and island planting beds included some edible species such as climbing vines, a fig tree, cherry fans, and culinary herbs, to continue the University's Biodiverse and Edible planting ethos.
Landscape improvements were aimed at breathing new life into the outdoor area, to create an attractive green break out seating space to compliment the newly refurbished Atrium interior.
