Located at the heart of the University's City Campus, the Bright Building which opened in July 2013, is an exciting and dynamic building with multi function space, housing the re: centre - a new centre for research, driving innovative business start up, supporting growth and knowledge transfer, enterprise and innovation, and rethinking the future.
The Bright Building known as the Sustainable Enterprise Centre during its inception and construction, has been designed to the University of Bradford's target driven sustainability specification, delivering a post construction final certificate BREEAM Outstanding score of 95.2%, the worlds highest BREEAM score in the education sector.
The design of the building included many innovative and highly sustainable low energy features including a full height sun space providing natural ventilation in summer and heating in winter, solar thermal and photo voltaic panels, hempcrete walls, rainwater harvesting, and SUDs drainage.
Landscape habitats created included a Bio-diverse Green Roof with a wildlife pond planted with native marginal plants, a native wildflower area, matrixes of sedums, grasses and herbs, and wildlife habitat artefacts including bird feeder tables, insect houses, pebble areas, and coiled hemp ropes.
Externally the landscape environs comprised species rich shrub and herbaceous planting beds, with flowers to attract bees and butterflies, trees and shrubs with berries for birds, evergreens for winter cover, as well as a Bio-diverse Native Pollen and Nectar Rich Willdflower area
"Margaret’s plans with all the areas of planting and species clearly marked out are really good, the best landscaping plans for BREEAM we have come across and we do a lot of BREEAM Eco assessment’s ! "
